Anticipated Electricity Rate Increase for Cotabato Light Customers in May

Cotabato Light customers are bracing for a potential increase in electricity rates for the upcoming month of May. This anticipated increase is primarily attributed to higher generation charges which pushed the generation rate up from upward adjustment in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) prices last April due to unprecedented increase in demand for electricity and outages of several power plants.

Additionally, the limited allocation of power from the primary supplier, the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM), further aggravates the situation due to the effect of dry seasons coupled with El Nino Phenomenon as it relies mostly on its Hydroelectric Power Plants.

We understand that an increase in electricity rates may pose challenges for our customers. Therefore, we encourage everyone to practice energy conservation measures to help mitigate the impact on your electricity bills. Simple actions such as turning off lights when not in use, unplugging electronic devices, use of natural lights and using energy-efficient appliances can contribute to reducing overall energy consumption.

Moreover, the generation charge on the customer's bill is just a pass-through charge or Cotabato Light merely acts as a collecting agent for this charge. Cotabato Light’s own rate, which is the distribution charge, has not increased since 2012.

We remain committed to providing reliable and affordable electricity services to our valued customers. Cotabato Light advises its customers to use electricity wisely through energy conservation and energy efficiency methods. Please visit www.cotabatolight.com for tips on how to reduce consumption.
