Cotabato City, April 23, 2025 — Cotabato Light and Power Company (Cotabato Light) informs its valued customers of an anticipated increase in electricity rates for the month of April 2025, driven primarily by a rise in generation charges.
The adjustment is attributed to higher prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), resulting in a generation charge increase of P0.9626 per kilowatt-hour (kWh). This has caused the overall residential rate to rise to P8.61 per kWh, up from P7.65 per kWh in March.
For a typical household consuming 200 kWh per month, this translates to an increase of approximately P192.52 in their April electric bill. This new rate applies to the billing period from April 16 to May 15, 2025.
The surge in WESM prices is largely due to the onset of the warm and dry season, officially declared by PAGASA on March 26, 2025. The higher electricity demand, combined with reduced power supply during this period, has led to elevated generation costs.
Cotabato Light would like to emphasize that the generation charge is a pass-through cost, which means the company does not earn from this adjustment. It simply reflects the actual cost of purchasing electricity from the market. Importantly, the distribution charge remains unchanged since 2012.
To help manage electricity bills during this high-demand period, Cotabato Light encourages customers to practice energy-saving habits and be mindful of their consumption.
Cotabato Light, a subsidiary of AboitizPower, continues to serve Cotabato City and the municipalities of Sultan Kudarat and Datu Odin Sinsuat in Maguindanao del Norte with a commitment to reliable and responsive service.
