Cotabato Light Partners with MENRE for 1st Coastal Clean-up Under 3-Year MOA

Cotabato City, January 25, 2025 – Cotabato Light today kicked off its first coastal clean-up initiative in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MENRE). This event marks the beginning of a three-year commitment under a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) focusing on river and coastal clean-up efforts.

The partnership aims to promote environmental awareness and encourage sustainable practices to foster a sense of community responsibility and inspire active participation in environmental conservation. As part of a groundbreaking initiative to combat environmental challenges, Cotabato Light conducted its first coastal clean-up drive along Tamontaka River at Bay Walk Kalanganan II.

Through collaborative efforts, Cotabato Light and MENRE will work towards raising awareness and promoting sustainable practices. The clean-up activity was joined by over 250 volunteers, including  representatives from Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), the City LGU through CENRO, Barangay Officials, and the Marine Battalion Landing Team 5. The collective efforts resulted in the collection of approximately 400 kilograms of waste along the area. The activity also included the donation of trash bins, reinforcing the program’s long term environmental goals.

“This is more than just an act of cleaning; it is a commitment to the environment and to future generations. Our partnership with MENRE signifies a united effort to restore and protect one of the most vital resources in our region,” said Mr. Valentin S. Saludes III, President & COO of Cotabato Light.

MENRE echoed this sentiment, with Director Jalani Pamalian, Director of Environment Management Services of MENRE BARMM, highlighting the role of collaboration in achieving sustainable development. “Through this partnership, we aim to inspire communities to take proactive steps toward safeguarding our rivers and coastlines. Together, we can create a lasting impact.”

The successful execution of this first clean-up event sets the stage for a fruitful three-year collaboration between Cotabato Light and MENRE. Together, we will strive to create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for future generations.
